Performing on a yacht
You ever go on a trip where it seems like Mother Nature is putting on a show just for you? I went out sailing with Wayne on his yacht the other evening. I thought there would be 3 of us, but it grew into 7 while I wasn’t looking.
On the way out of the channel we got ourselves a dolphin pod escort! 2 adults, and a second pair of adults with a tiny mermaid I mean baby dolphin inbetween. I want one! So friggin’ cute. There wasn’t much of a breeze… but we had a chugging motor. Everyone started partying pretty hard. I partied a tad too hard and wound up face down for a while near the mast. Just zoning out into the gentle rocking of the boat.
And speaking of rocking: at the right moment I got up, busted out my Union Jack acoustic and performed for the party for a couple of hours. Those guys love their Beatles! So I played British stuff from my showcase, The Python Era. The baked revelers even threw in some singalong background harmonies here and there. It was a blast.
Sunset entertainer for yachts, could it be a marketing strategy? MC Radiance, entertainment for Richard Branson’s yacht. Toodling around the Caribbean with Mr. Virgin, whaddya think? (As long as he hooks me up with all the appropriate movers and shakers, of course.)
While I was busy performing there was an awesome sunset: the entire fluffy sky turned salmon color. A dramatic painting, seemingly a response to all the positive energy we were putting out! And in the east, a row of huge thunderstorms was steadily marching northwards, a safe 15 miles away. Constant lightning along the horizon, stark against a blackening sky. (Out on the bay, seems you can see forever.) Those thunderheads were lit up pink even after the sun was gone, while the cells reflected fiercely on the bay to the east.
But then the stormline started drifting our way. I was getting real nervous. The other partiers were like “Keep playing! Nothing to worry about!” Until some of the lightning began hitting our side of downtown Tampa. Then the previous captain of the boat overruled the now sloshed current captain. The storm wind kicked up, we started listing hard. Invigorating! Soon we were racing our way back to port, trying to race the storm line!
Nope, the rain beat us there.
The captains got totally drenched pulling us into dock. Downstairs in the hold, there was no ventilation so the rest of us boiled. Yet by the time we came up for air, the downpour had subsided to a soft warm drizzle, which brought down the temp. Perfect. Thanks Mother Nature!
Other News: I’ve been recording some comedy improv with buddy Rajabob (Richard Ayers). I’ve woven it together with some Altered State Radio material off my site. Some fun results of our collaboration are in the 2 previous posts, below… Cheers!
